Mission

"greatestgeneration.tv" is a major video history project of "From Mists of Time", a Colorado 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. It uses state-of-the-art audio and video equipment to document and preserve the oral histories of the men and women who fought World War II. It also preserves the stories of the civilians who lived on the home front in America, as well as those who lived in the Allied and Axis countries during the war. These men and women are of the age that the time has come that we must accelerate our efforts and devote our time to get the interviews before they are gone.

The purpose of "greatestgeneration.tv" is to collect, preserve, and distribute audio and video oral histories relating to the greatest conflict of the century. It will assure that the first-person oral histories of these men and women are preserved for family members, teachers, students, historians, and others.

"Every day we are losing members of this 'Greatest Generation.' Some pass on without telling their stories to anyone," says Patty Butler Spiers, President of "From Mists of Time." "That's why this is such a critical project. We are seeking not just the heroes and personalities, but individuals within every aspect of the conflict."

One of the purposes of GreatestGeneration.tv is to help ordinary people preserve part of their own family history. It is common for the people we interview to say "I wasn't a hero," "I was just doing my duty," or "I didn't do anything important." It is also common for spouses, children, and grandchildren to say "He never talked about the war,, "He never told us about that," or "That is the most we have ever heard about what he did." Whether it is because they are talking to professional journalists, or whether it is because they know it is now or never, they ARE telling their stories to us. Each story is important for families, and copies are made available to them.
